Maintenance of DC Motors During Operation

For DC motors in operation, regular maintenance is essential to promptly detect any abnormalities and eliminate potential hazards, thereby ensuring the motor’s long-term safe and reliable performance. 1. During operation, the motor’s temperature, vibration, sound, and commutation status of each component should be checked regularly. Pay special attention to signs of overheating, discoloration, and the presence of a burnt insulation odor. 2. Use a listening rod to inspect the sounds emitted by various components, determining whether there are any friction noises between the rotor and stator beyond electromagnetic and ventilation noises. Also, check for unusual sounds coming from bearing shells or bearings themselves. 3. Inspect the connection points and insulators of the main circuit, paying close attention to any signs of overheating, discoloration, or abnormal odors such as burnt insulation.

What are the key maintenance points for a cycloidal motor?

In fact, the gerotor motor boasts high precision and features automatic flow distribution with replaceable components. The motor can be used in both series and parallel configurations, and when used in series, it employs relief hoses other than those from Seeburg. Equipped with tapered roller bearings for enhanced support, this design provides a substantial radial load-carrying capacity, enabling the motor to directly drive mechanical systems. Main applications of hydraulic motors

Hydraulic motors, also known as oil motors, are primarily used in injection molding machinery, ships, hoisting equipment, construction machinery, building machinery, coal mining machinery, mining machinery, metallurgical machinery, marine machinery, petrochemical equipment, port machinery, and more. High-speed gear motors boast advantages such as compact size, light weight, simple structure, excellent manufacturability, insensitivity to oil contamination, resistance to shock loads, and low inertia. However, they also have certain drawbacks, including significant torque pulsation, relatively low efficiency, small starting torque (only about 60%–70% of the rated torque), and poor stability at low speeds.

Factors causing low-speed creep in hydraulic motors

1. The leakage volume is unstable in magnitude. Its leakage rate is not constant at every instant; rather, it fluctuates periodically as the rotor’s phase angle changes during operation. At low speeds, the flow entering the motor is relatively small, so the proportion occupied by leakage becomes relatively large. Consequently, this instability in leakage significantly interferes with the motor’s actual flow rate, thereby causing fluctuations in the motor’s rotational speed. 2. The magnitude of frictional force is also unstable. Normally, frictional force increases with rising speed; however, inside a motor operating at rest or at low speeds, the frictional resistance does not follow this pattern. When the operating speed slightly increases, the frictional resistance not only fails to increase but actually decreases instead. On the other hand, in a hydraulic motor, the interaction between the motor and the load is driven by the rise in pressure resulting from the compression of hydraulic oil. 3. The motor’s rotational speed is too low. When the motor’s speed is excessively low, unavoidable clearances between mechanical components lead to leakage. Moreover, the amount of leakage varies among different piston chambers, which causes an asynchronous sliding motion between the motor’s rotational speed and the crankshaft—manifesting macroscopically as the phenomenon known as “creep” in the motor.

Precautions for Using Hydraulic Motors

1. When the driven component has a large moment of inertia and it is required to achieve braking or forward/reverse motion within a short time, a safety valve should be installed in the return oil circuit to provide cushioning, thereby preventing sudden hydraulic shocks that could lead to damage or accidents. 2. When using a fixed-displacement motor, if smooth starting and stopping are desired, the circuit design should incorporate appropriate pressure control or flow control methods. 3. When a hydraulic motor is used as a power source for lifting equipment or locomotion systems, a speed-limiting valve must be installed to prevent heavy objects from falling rapidly or vehicles or other moving mechanisms from overspeeding when descending slopes, which could result in serious accidents. 4. Since hydraulic motors always have leakage, even if the inlet and outlet ports of the hydraulic motor are closed to achieve braking, there will still be a slow slip. Therefore, when prolonged braking is required, an additional brake mechanism designed to prevent rotation should be provided separately. 5. When starting under full load is necessary, attention should be paid to the value of the hydraulic motor’s starting torque, as the starting torque of a hydraulic motor is always lower than its rated torque. Ignoring this fact could prevent the working mechanism from operating properly. 6. Because the backpressure (outlet pressure) of the hydraulic motor’s return line is always higher than atmospheric pressure, the motor’s drain line must be routed directly back to the oil tank and cannot be connected to the hydraulic motor’s return oil line.
