The steering gear, commonly known as the steering mechanism or steering box, is the most critical component in the steering system. Its functions are to amplify the force transmitted from the steering wheel to the steering transmission mechanism and to change the direction of force transmission. Currently, steering gears available on the market can be categorized into the following types: hydraulic power steering (HPS) (P-HPS), electric power steering—specifically, column-mounted electric power steering (C-EPS), worm-and-sector type (P-EPS), dual-gear type (DP-EPS), and rack-and-pinion type (RP-EPS).
